Bob MacIntyre secures Ryder Cup place

Bob MacIntyre has secured one of the last 2 automatic spots for Team Europe’s Ryder Cup team and will now head to Rome at the end of this month for his first appearance in the biennial event.

The year-long qualifying campaign culminated today at the Omega European Masters in Crans-sur-Sierre, where Bob held off challenges from Yannik Paul and Adrian Meronk to maintain his 3rd position on the European Ryder Cup points list and guarantee his place on Luke Donald’s team.

A strong, impressive finish at the Czech Masters last week had increased the lead over his nearest challengers, and after making the cut for the first time in Switzerland this week, the possibility of relying on a Captain’s pick became quite remote.

Bob now joins Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland & Tyrrell Hatton who have already confirmed their place in the European team, and they will find out tomorrow the names of Luke Donald’s six Captain’s picks.

Speaking in Switzerland, Bob said: “I am so excited to be part of this year’s European Ryder Cup team, and I am really looking forward to Rome. It has been a tough qualifying campaign, but I am pleased with the way I have dealt with the challenge and to have earned one of the 6 automatic spots.”

“I’ve worked hard to play in the Ryder Cup, but it’s now important that we go on and win it”

Bob will take this week off, before competing in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, which will be his last event before joining Luke Donald and the rest of the European team in Rome.
