Grant Forrest is set to make his third start in a Major Championship at the US Open in Pinehurst next month, after finishing in a tie for first place at Final Qualifying at Walton Heath today.
With rounds of 66 & 68, his score of 10 under took him to the top of the leaderboard, and guaranteed him one of the 9 final spots available for Pinehurst.
Grant’s previous Major starts have been at The Open Championship in 2013 at Muirfield, and 2018 at Carnoustie, so this will be his first appearance in a Major in the US.
Speaking at the close of Qualification, Grant said: “It has been quite a tough day today, as I can’t remember the last time that I played 36 holes of competitive golf in one day, but the result has been really rewarding. Pinehurst will be challenging, but I can’t wait to get out there to compete in a Major again."
Also playing at Walton Heath was Calum Hill, and although a first round 68 gave him a good start, a level par second round was not enough for one of the qualification spots.
Both Calum & Grant now return to DP World Tour action this week in Belgium at the Soudal Open in Antwerp, which starts at the Rinkven International Golf Club on Thursday.
